The Development Forums National Workshop

The fourth Motsepe Foundation Development Forums National Workshop was successful, having received full attendance from the Forum’s members; chairpersons, religious and traditional leaders.

Key points of discussion focused on; the handing over of equipment in Buffalo City, in East London, towards the development of 57 boxing clubs, as well as the press announcement of the Motsepe Foundation’s sponsorship towards school netball, football and the ABC Motsepe Schools Eisteddfod.

Topics brought forth by the forums included issues around infrastructural needs, educational access, women-owned and youth-owned businesses.

A restructuring of the Development Forum framework is in the offing. This change comes in response to the Foundation’s objective to widen the reach of its developmental efforts, which includes forming new Forums in rural and township areas. In addition to these changes, the Foundation has decided to review its criteria for entrepreneurial applications looking for financial support.

Having reviewed applications by the thousands in the past year, The Motsepe Foundation found that many were not viable, profitable or sustainable in the medium-to-long term; qualities that the Motsepe Foundation believes are vital to the economic growth of every community. These issues will be reviewed is due course and the final outcome will be communicated to all the Forums. The Motsepe Foundation remains committed to helping communities become self-sustainable.
