The play offs of the ABC Motsepe SAFA league got off to a flying start in Kimberly’s Galeshewe Stadium.
The play off finals started on Monday, and first out of the blocks was Milfort FC from KwaZulu Natal and the Free State’s Roses United. This A Group encounter provided the fans with exciting soccer, proving once more the value of the tournament sponsored by the Motsepe Foundation and carrying a total of R1-m in prize money for the winners, R200 000 of which will go to a development project identified by the winners and approved by SAFA and the Motsepe Foundation.
Roses United won the encounter 2 – 1.
Next on the field was Glendene from the Western Cape, who beat Gauteng side African All Stars 1 – 0 in another exciting clash.
On Tuesday, African All Stars redeemed themselves with a hard-fought 1 – 0 win over Roses United, while Mbombela United kicked off their campaign with a 3 – 1 victory over Glendene. Mbombela had drawn a bye for the first day.
On Wednesday, the B Stream kicked off with Northern Cape Hungry Lions beating North West Shining Stars 3 – 2Magezi FC slamming Mthata Bucks 2 – 1.
In Group A, African All Stars beat Milfort 2 – 1 and Mbombela United and Roses United drew 1 – 1.
